The Orange Lightning Ball
Lily and Max loved playing padel at the community center every Saturday. But this Saturday was different. A mysterious orange ball sat in the corner of the court, glowing like a tiny sun.
"Want to try it?" Lily asked, bouncing the ball. But when it hit the ground, it didn't bounce back up. Instead, it rolled toward the fence glowing brighter and brighter.
"Wait!" Max called, running after it.
The orange ball rolled past the fence, past the playground, and straight toward the old swimming pool. No one had used the pool for years—it had been drained and forgotten. But as the ball approached, lightning flashed across the clear blue sky, and suddenly water began to fill the empty pool!
The children stopped running, their eyes wide. The water wasn't ordinary water—it shimmered with golden sparkles, and the orange ball floated on the surface, pulsing with warm light.
"Jump in!" Lily whispered.
Hand in hand, they stepped into the magical pool. The water felt like a warm hug. Under the surface, they could breathe! Fish made of pure light swam around them, and the orange ball became a tiny sun illuminating an underwater castle.
An elderly mermaid appeared, her silver hair flowing like seaweed. "Thank you for finding my Lightning Ball," she said softly. "For fifty years, I waited for someone brave enough to follow it."
She explained that the Lightning Ball had been created from a storm's greatest lightning strike, transformed into orange by the magic of friendship. It only revealed its true power to kind children who loved adventure.
"Will you visit again?" the mermaid asked, handing each child a small orange stone that glowed softly.
"Every Saturday!" Max promised.
When they climbed out of the pool, the water was gone. The padel court looked normal again. But in their pockets, the orange stones still glowed—tiny pieces of magic, waiting for their next visit.
Some adventures find you. All you have to do is be brave enough to start running toward them.
