The Orange Lightning Ball

Lily and Max were best friends who loved summer days. One hot afternoon, they discovered something magical behind the old pool house.

"Look!" cried Lily, pointing at a glowing orange ball half-buried in the grass. It shimmered like captured sunshine, pulsing with a warm, golden light.

Max picked it up carefully. "It's beautiful! Like a piece of the sun fell down just for us."

Just then, dark clouds gathered overhead. A brilliant bolt of lightning struck the old padel court nearby, and when the flash cleared, the orange ball began to spin in Max's hands. It hummed with energy, vibrating against his palms.

"Let's take it to the pool!" Lily suggested. "Maybe it wants to go home—back to where the light can shine!"

They ran to the pool, the orange ball floating above Max's hand now, glowing brighter with every step. As they reached the water's edge, the ball suddenly shot upward, creating a magnificent rainbow bridge across the pool.

"Whoa!" breathed Max.

The water in the pool began to bubble and sparkle, turning into liquid crystal that reflected a thousand colors. Small, glowing fish made of pure light swam through the magical water, leaving trails of sparkles wherever they went.

Lily stepped onto the rainbow bridge. "Come on! It wants us to follow!"

Hand in hand, they crossed the bridge. At the center, the orange ball hovered, spinning faster and faster. It began to speak—not with words, but with feelings straight into their hearts. It was lonely, this piece of fallen starlight, and had been waiting thousands of years for someone kind enough to help it return home.

"We'll help you!" both children promised simultaneously.

Another lightning bolt flashed, and this time they understood. The orange ball needed them to hit it with the padel racquet, launching it back to the sky where it belonged.

Max grabbed a nearby racquet. "Together?"

"Together!" Lily agreed.

They swung as one, and the orange ball shot upward like a shooting star in reverse. It blazed through the clouds, creating a spectacular display of orange and gold that painted the entire sky. Where it passed, the clouds parted, revealing the most beautiful sunset either had ever seen.

The pool returned to normal, but something had changed. Now, whenever lightning struck during a summer storm, both children could feel a warm, orange glow in their hearts—their secret friend saying hello from above.

"We'll always remember," Lily whispered.

"Always," Max agreed.

And they did, every time they saw orange light dancing on water, or lightning painting the sky. Some magic, once discovered, stays with you forever.
