The Orange Knight's Brave Heart

Lily loved her dog Barnaby more than anything in the world. He was a scruffy little terrier with one floppy ear and a tail that never stopped wagging. Every Saturday, they would explore the woods behind her house, looking for magical creatures.

One autumn afternoon, Lily peeled a bright orange clementine as she walked. The sweet citrus smell filled the air. Suddenly, Barnaby started barking at an old oak tree.

"What is it, buddy?" Lily asked, scratching behind his ears.

Behind the tree stood the most unusual creature Lily had ever seen. It looked like a zombie from her storybooks—pale green skin, messy hair, clothes that looked old and tattered—but instead of being scary, this zombie was dancing!

The zombie spun around and tipped an imaginary hat. "Greetings! I'm Zombily, and I'm the guardian of the Groaning Grove."

Lily's eyes went wide. "A real zombie? But you're so... friendly!"

"Not all zombies are scary," Zombily said with a gentle smile. "Most of us just want to dance and tell jokes. But there's a bull named Thunder who chases us away from the best dancing spots."

Barnaby barked bravely, as if volunteering to help.

"I have an idea!" Lily said, holding up her orange. "Maybe Thunder isn't mean. Maybe he just needs a friend."

They found Thunder in a sunny meadow, looking lonely. The big bull's brown eyes looked sad.

Lily approached slowly. "Would you like an orange, Thunder? It's sweet and yummy."

The bull sniffed the fruit and gave a happy snort. He took it gently, and his tail swished.

"Nobody's ever shared with me before," Thunder said softly. "I only chased the zombies because I wanted to dance too, but I didn't know how to ask."

Zombily clapped his hands. "Well then, let's dance together!"

And so they did—Barnaby barking along, Lily spinning in circles, Thunder doing a surprisingly graceful bull shuffle, and Zombily teaching everyone the zombie wiggle. They danced until sunset, becoming the unlikeliest group of friends in the whole enchanted forest.

Lily learned that day that things aren't always what they seem, and sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to share an orange with them.
