The Orange Hat's Sky Ocean
Milo found the hat in his grandmother's attic. It was bright orange, with a wide brim and tiny silver stars stitched around the crown. When he put it on, something magical happened.
The world turned upside down—or maybe it was Milo who turned. Suddenly, he wasn't standing on the attic floor anymore. He was swimming in the sky!
Clouds floated around him like fluffy white fish. The sun beamed through them, making everything sparkle.
"You found my hat!" said a voice.
Milo turned and saw a girl made entirely of sunlight. Her hair flowed like golden ribbons, and her eyes twinkled like stars.
"I'm Sunny," she said. "And that's my favorite swimming hat."
"Swimming hat?" Milo asked, splashing through a cloud.
"Yes!" Sunny laughed, and her laugh sounded like wind chimes. "Whoever wears it can swim anywhere—even in the sky!"
Sunny took Milo's hand. "Come! I want to show you my favorite place."
Together they swam through rainbow-colored clouds. They danced with gentle breezes and raced playful sunbeams. Milo felt lighter than air, happier than he'd ever been.
But then Sunny's smile faded. "I have to go home soon," she said sadly. "I live on the far side of the sun, and I can only visit when the orange hat is worn."
Milo looked at the hat, then at his new friend. He knew what he had to do.
"Take it," Milo said, placing the orange hat on Sunny's head. "So you can come visit whenever you want."
Sunny's eyes widened. "But you found it—"
"And now I'm giving it to my friend," Milo said. "That's what friends do."
Sunny hugged him, and Milo felt warm all over, like being wrapped in sunshine.
"Every morning at sunrise," Sunny promised, "I'll wear this hat and swim back to find you. We'll have adventures together."
Milo woke up on the attic floor, the hat gone. But the next morning, when the sun painted his room orange, he saw a flash of silver in the sky.
Sunny was wearing the hat. And she was waving.
Milo waved back, knowing that true friendship, like magic, finds a way.
