The Orange-Haired Lightning Friend

Lily loved storms. When the sky turned dark and rumbled, she pressed her nose against the window, waiting for the magic.

One evening, as lightning flashed across the clouds, something tiny and glowing tumbled into her garden. Lily rushed outside in her yellow raincoat.

There, shivering on a wet lily pad, sat a creature no bigger than her thumb. It had the softest orange hair that crackled like tiny lightning bolts, and its skin shimmered like the sky before a storm.

"I'm a Padel," the creature squeaked, its voice sounding like wind chimes. "I ride lightning! But I fell off during the storm."

Lily gently cupped the Padel in her hands. Its orange hair tickled her palms, and tiny sparks danced around its fingers.

"I'll help you," Lily promised. "But first, let's get warm inside."

She made a nest from her softest blanket and offered the Padel an orange slice from the kitchen. The creature's eyes widened—it had never tasted anything so sweet!

"Will you be my friend?" Lily asked. "I've always wanted a magical friend."

The Padel's orange hair glowed brighter. "Friends? Real friends stay together, even through storms?"

"Always," Lily said firmly.

Outside, thunder rumbled. The Padel's hair crackled excitedly. "The Lightning Express is coming! It's how we Padels travel home!"

Lily carried her new friend to the window. A streak of lightning paused in the sky, glowing like a silver ladder.

"Will you visit?" Lily whispered, her heart squeezing.

"Every storm," the Padel promised. "Friends never say goodbye forever."

With a tiny spark, the creature leaped onto the lightning and zoomed upward, orange hair blazing like a miniature sun.

Lily watched until the sky cleared. In her pocket, she found a tiny orange hair that still crackled with magic—the first gift from a storm-traveling friend.

That night, Lily dreamed of lightning ladders and orange-haired friends. And whenever storms came, she waited at the window, knowing that the best friends find you in the most unexpected places.
