The Orange-Haired Friend by the Sea

Lily loved spending her summer days by the ocean. Her curly red hair blew in the salty breeze as she searched for seashells along the sandy shore. The waves crashed against the rocks, creating foamy patterns that looked like lace.

One afternoon, while running away from the incoming tide, Lily spotted something strange peeking out from behind a large piece of driftwood. It was greenish-brown and moving slowly—almost like a zombie from her storybooks! Her heart raced, but curiosity made her creep closer.

The figure turned, and Lily gasped. It wasn't a zombie at all! It was a boy with messy orange hair sticking up like seaweed, covered in sand and smiling shyly. His name was Finn, and he'd been building an elaborate sandcastle complete with towers and a moat filled with water.

"I thought you were a zombie!" Lily laughed, relieved.

Finn grinned. "I get that a lot. My hair does look pretty wild after swimming."

They spent the rest of the afternoon together, building an even bigger castle and decorating it with orange shells. When the tide started coming in, they worked frantically to construct a wall of stones to protect their creation.

"The water always wins," Finn said philosophically as they watched a wave finally wash over their castle. "But that's okay. We can build another one tomorrow."

Lily smiled, understanding something important: some of the best adventures—and friendships—start when you least expect them, even when they look a little scary at first.

The next day, and every day that summer, Lily and Finn could be seen running along the beach, two friends with wild orange hair from the sun, building kingdoms in the sand and knowing that every wave brought the promise of a new beginning.
