The Orange Guardian's Secret
Lily loved playing games on her mom's iphone, but today she discovered something magical—a glowing app she'd never seen before. When she tapped it, the screen swirled like a tornado of stars!
She tumbled onto soft grass under an orange sky. Before her stood a magnificent sphinx with emerald eyes and golden wings.
"Welcome, clever child," the sphinx purred. "I guard the Orchard of Wishes, where every orange holds a dream. But first, you must help my friend."
A friendly bull trotted over, his horns decorated with flowers. "My name is Buster," he said softly. "The silly zombie toys from the haunted toy store keep stealing our magic oranges. They think eating them will make them real!"
Lily gasped as colorful zombie dolls shambled toward the orange trees, their stitched smiles looking hopeful, not scary.
"They just want to be loved," Lily said. "My little brother has zombie toys too. He plays with them every day!"
Lily had an idea. She opened her iphone's drawing app and created pictures of the zombie toys being hugged, played with, and cherished.
"Look!" she showed them. "This is what being real means—being loved!"
The zombie toys stopped. Their button eyes sparkled. One by one, they returned the oranges and sat patiently, waiting for someone to play with them.
"Thank you!" Buster nudged Lily gratefully.
The sphinx smiled and plucked the perfect orange. "For your kindness, take this home. Inside is your heart's wish."
Back in her room, Lily peeled the orange. It tasted like sunshine and dreams.
That night, she set her zombie toys on her pillow, and her little brother did the same with his. They were already real—because they were loved.
Lily smiled, touching the iphone. Some secrets were too special to share with everyone, but she knew magic was real, and kindness was the strongest magic of all.
