The Orange Goldfish's Perfect Pitch

Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon, he'd practice pitching in his backyard, dreaming of the day he'd make the team. But there was one problem — Leo couldn't throw a strike to save his life.

One sunny Saturday, Leo sat by the pond behind his house, feeling sad. Tryouts were Monday, and he was terrible.

"Hello there," said a tiny voice.

Leo jumped. A little orange goldfish with shimmering scales was swimming right near the surface, looking at him.

"Did you just... talk?" Leo whispered.

"I'm Finn," said the goldfish. "And I couldn't help but notice you're unhappy about something."

Leo poured out his heart about baseball tryouts. Finn listened carefully, his orange scales gleaming in the sunlight.

"I can help," Finn said. "But you have to promise me something."

"Anything!"

"Remember that having a friend who believes in you is more important than winning."

"I promise!"

For three days, Finn taught Leo secrets about pitching — how to breathe, how to focus, how to trust himself. The goldfish had magical powers. When Leo threw, Finn would make the ball glow orange, leaving a trail like a sunset.

On Monday, Leo stood on the mound. He closed his eyes and remembered everything Finn had taught him. He threw the ball — strike one! Strike two! Strike three!

He made the team! Leo rushed back to the pond to thank his friend, but Finn was gone. In his place floated a single orange baseball.

Leo understood then. Sometimes the best friends are the ones who believe in us, even if they can't stay forever. And that, thought Leo, pocketing the orange baseball, was the real magic.

Every game after that, Leo would touch his lucky orange baseball and whisper, "This one's for you, Finn." And somehow, someway, he always pitched his best when he did.
