The Orange Goldfish's Magic Wish
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's pond every summer. The water shimmered like diamonds, and hidden beneath the lily pads lived the most beautiful orange goldfish she had ever seen.
"Hello, Finnegan," Lily would whisper, dropping tiny crumbs of bread. The goldfish would dart to the surface, his scales glowing like tiny suns.
One afternoon, while Lily sat on the garden bench, she noticed something strange. Behind the old oak tree stood a creature with messy green hair, torn clothes, and sleepy eyes. He looked like a zombie from her storybooks, but he wasn't scary at all. He looked… sad.
"Are you lost?" Lily asked bravely.
The creature nodded. "I'm Zeb, and I've been asleep for one hundred years. Everything has changed."
Lily's eyes lit up with an idea. "Finnegan might help! The old stories say orange goldfish can grant one special wish to those who need it most."
Together, they climbed to the top of the hill where the old cable car waited. The cable stretched across the valley like a silver thread, connecting their little town to the world beyond.
"What would you wish for?" Lily asked as the cable car swayed gently in the breeze.
Zeb thought for a moment. "I don't want to be scary anymore. I just want a friend."
When they returned to the pond, Finnegan was waiting. As soon as Zeb made his wish, the water glowed with golden light. Zeb's messy hair became neat and tidy. His torn clothes transformed into a bright yellow shirt. He didn't look like a zombie anymore—he looked like a regular boy!
"Your wish came true!" Lily cheered. "But wait, you wished for a friend, not to change."
Finnegan splashed happily, and Lily realized something wonderful. Zeb hadn't changed on the outside at all. He had always been a friend. She just needed to see him with her heart, not her eyes.
That summer, Lily, Zeb, and Finnegan had the most magical adventures. And Lily learned that the best wishes aren't about changing things—they're about seeing the magic that was there all along.
