The Orange Fish's Secret Pool

Lily loved exploring the forest behind her house. Every day after school, she'd follow the winding path until she discovered something new. But nothing had prepared her for what she found that warm Tuesday afternoon.

Pushing aside some ferns, Lily gasped. A secret pool sparkled before her, its water so clear she could see smooth stones at the bottom. But what made her catch her breath was the fish swimming there—bright orange, shimmering like tiny suns.

"Hello there!" a voice said.

Lily jumped. The orange fish had popped its head above the water.

"You... you can talk?" Lily whispered, kneeling beside the pool.

"Only to special friends," the fish said happily. "I'm Finley. What's your name?"

"Lily."

"Nice to meet you, Lily! Want to see something magical?" Finley asked. "Watch this!"

The orange fish did a flip, and suddenly the water began to glow. Colors swirled—purple, pink, gold—dancing like liquid rainbow. Lily laughed with delight as tiny sparkles rose from the surface, smelling like cotton candy and sunshine.

"The pool shows magic when someone true of heart finds it," Finley explained. "For fifty years, I've waited for a friend like you."

Lily's heart swelled. She'd always felt different at school, too quiet, too dreamy. But here, she was special.

"Can I visit again?" she asked.

"Every day!" Finley said. "But promise me something—this place stays our secret. Some magic must be protected."

"I promise," Lily whispered solemnly.

That summer, Lily visited her orange friend every day. They played games, shared stories, and Finley taught her that being different was actually her greatest gift.

"You see the world beautifully, Lily," Finley told her once. "That's magic all its own."

When school started again, Lily walked taller, smiling more. She'd made a friend in the most unlikely place—and learned that the best adventures find you when you keep your heart open.

The secret pool waited, its water ready to sparkle again. But the real magic was inside Lily now—belief in herself, and a forever friend who was orange, wonderful, and completely hers.
