The Orange Feather's Flight

Maya loved her messy brown hair. Every morning, it stuck up like a squirrel's tail, making her whole family laugh. But today, something magical happened while she was running through the forest behind her house.

An orange feather floated down from the sky and landed right on top of her head! Maya froze. The feather shimmered like it had swallowed a piece of the sun. When she reached up to touch it, the feather whispered, "Follow me!"

Maya's heart pounded with excitement. She started running after the feather as it danced through the trees, leading her deeper into the woods than she'd ever been before. The orange glow lit up the shadows like a tiny lantern.

"Wait!" someone called out. Maya turned to see Leo, a boy from her class. His curly hair bounced as he caught up to her. "I saw that feather too!" he said, eyes wide. "Do you think it's magic?"

Maya nodded. "I think it wants to show us something."

Together, they followed the orange feather past a babbling brook and over a mossy log. Maya was running so fast she could barely breathe, but she didn't want to stop. Leo kept pace beside her, grinning.

Finally, the feather led them to a clearing Maya had never seen before. In the center stood the biggest orange tree she'd ever seen, its branches heavy with glowing fruit.

"Wow," Leo breathed. "Do you think these are—"

"Orange oranges," Maya finished. The feather circled the tree three times, then landed on Maya's shoulder, warm as a hug.

From that day on, Maya and Leo became the best of friends. Every afternoon after school, they'd run to their secret orange tree, sharing the sweetest fruit in the world. And sometimes, when the wind was right, they'd see other orange feathers floating through the forest, leading other children toward magical adventures of their own.

Maya still had messy hair, but now she didn't mind. After all, the most wonderful things in life sometimes come from the most unexpected places—even from the top of your own head.
