The Orange Dragon's Gift

Lily loved the old orange tree in her backyard. It was the biggest tree in the neighborhood, with branches that stretched up like arms wanting to hug the sky. One evening, as she sat beneath it reading, something peculiar happened.

A tiny cable of silver light snaked down from the tree's highest branch. Lily blinked. The cable pulsed and glowed, winding around her wrist like a friendly bracelet. Before she could wonder what it meant, lightning cracked across the darkening sky—not scary storm lightning, but bright purple and green lightning that made a musical sound when it flashed.

"Follow me," whispered a voice like wind chimes.

The cable tugged gently, leading Lily through her backyard, past the fence, and into the woods behind her house. Deeper and deeper she went, until the trees parted to reveal something impossible: a small golden pyramid no bigger than a garden shed, glowing softly in the twilight.

Inside the pyramid sat the most beautiful creature Lily had ever seen—a tiny dragon with scales the color of a ripe orange, curled around something precious.

"You came!" the dragon chirped. "My name is Ignis. I've been waiting for someone brave enough to follow the silver cable."

Ignis uncurled to reveal an orange twice as large as any Lily had ever seen, pulsing with warm light.

"This is the Sun Fruit," Ignis explained sadly. "It feeds the stars, but I'm too small to carry it to the sky. Will you help me?"

Lily's heart swelled. She may be small, but she could help in a big way!

Together, Lily and Ignis carried the glowing orange up the pyramid's stairs. Lightning danced around them as Ignis flapped his tiny wings, lifting higher and higher. Lily climbed on her tiptoes, reaching up, up, up—until the orange burst into a thousand sparkles that floated upward, joining the stars.

"You did it!" Ignis cheered, pressing his warm orange nose against her cheek. "Bravery isn't about being big or powerful. It's about showing up for others, even when you're scared."

That night, Lily fell asleep with a tiny orange scale tucked under her pillow—a reminder that even the smallest person can make the biggest difference, as long as she's willing to follow where wonder leads.
