The Orange Cat Who Saved the Stars
Lily had the curliest, wildest hair in all of Willowbrook Village. It bounced around her face like a cloud of golden springs, and she loved it. Every morning, she'd climb to the top of the attic stairs to peer through the little round window and watch the sunrise.
One Tuesday, something peculiar happened. As Lily brushed her hair, she noticed an orange cat sitting on her windowsill. Not just orange — this cat glowed like a tiny piece of the sun that had fallen to earth.
"Psst," whispered the cat. "I'm Creamsicle, and I need your help."
Lily nearly dropped her hairbrush. Cats didn't talk, especially not glowing orange ones.
"I'm a star spy," Creamsicle explained, twitching his whiskers. "I work for the Star Council, keeping watch over the night sky. Someone has been stealing stars from the Big Dipper!"
Lily's eyes widened. The Big Dipper was her favorite constellation. Her grandfather had shown it to her every summer evening before he passed away.
"I'll help you," she said without hesitation. "What do we do?"
Creamsicle handed her an orange star map. "The Star Thief leaves a trail of sparkles. Follow your heart — it knows the way."
Together, they crept through the sleeping village. Lily's curly hair caught the moonlight, making it shimmer like silver. Creamsicle's orange glow lit up the path as they followed tiny sparkles past the bakery, through the park, and up Moonlight Hill.
There, sitting sadly under an old oak tree, was a small boy named Toby. He held a jar filled with seven tiny stars.
"They're so beautiful," Toby sniffled. "I just wanted to keep them forever."
Lily knelt beside him. "Stars belong in the sky, where everyone can see them. My grandfather used to say the best things are the ones we share."
Toby looked at the stars, then at the vast dark sky above them. "I didn't think about that."
"What if you could visit them instead?" Creamsicle suggested, touching his nose to Toby's forehead. "Look up and make a wish on any star. They'll always hear you."
Carefully, Toby opened the jar. One by one, the stars floated upward, dancing back to their places in the Big Dipper. The night sky sparkled brighter than ever.
"Thank you," Toby whispered, waving at the stars.
From that night on, Lily, Toby, and Creamsicle became guardians of the sky. And sometimes, if you look closely at the Big Dipper, you might see an orange cat sitting among the stars, watching over dreamers everywhere.
