The Orange Cat's Magic Message

One stormy night, ten-year-old Lily sat by her window watching the rain. Suddenly, a flash of lightning lit up the sky, and she saw something orange dart across her backyard.

"It's a cat!" Lily whispered, pressing her face against the glass. The cat was the brightest orange she'd ever seen, like a little walking sunset.

But when lightning flashed again, the strangest thing happened. The orange cat looked right at her window and... winked?

Lily grabbed her iPhone and clicked a photo through the rain-streaked glass. In the picture, something amazing appeared — words glowing on the screen: "I need a friend."

Another lightning bolt cracked through the sky, and Lily's phone buzzed. A message appeared: "Hello! My name is Mango. I'm magical, but I'm lonely. Will you be my friend?"

Lily couldn't believe it. Her iPhone was talking to a cat!

"Yes!" she typed back. "But how are you texting me?"

"Magic!" came the reply. "I was born in a lightning bolt. I can talk to anyone who truly needs a friend."

Lily's eyes widened. "I do need a friend. I just moved here and haven't made any friends yet."

Mango the orange cat appeared at her door, completely dry despite the storm. He had a little pouch around his neck. "I have something special for you."

From his pouch, Mango pulled out the most perfect orange Lily had ever seen. "This is a Friendship Orange. Every time you share it with someone new, it magically grows back. But you have to be brave enough to say hello first."

Lily took the orange and felt warmth spread through her hands. "Thank you, Mango."

That week, Lily shared her magical orange with three new classmates. Each time, she made a new friend, and each time, the orange mysteriously reappeared in her pocket. Mango curled up at the foot of her bed every night, purring like a tiny thunderstorm.

Lily learned that the magic wasn't really in the orange or even in Mango. The real magic was simply being brave enough to say hello.

And sometimes, the best friends arrive in the most unexpected ways — even if they're orange cats who text you on your iPhone during a lightning storm.
