The Orange Cap and the Friendly Zombie
Leo loved his bright orange baseball cap more than anything. He wore it everywhere, especially when he played baseball with his best friend Mia. One sunny afternoon, Leo's favorite baseball sailed over the fence into the overgrown garden of the old house next door.
"I'll get it!" Leo said bravely. He pushed through the rusty gate. Among the tangled flowers, something green and shuffling appeared. A zombie! Leo's heart pounded. But instead of scary moans, the figure said, "Oh! Hello there. Sorry if I startled you. I'm just looking for my baseball."
The zombie wasn't scary at all—it had a crooked smile and kind eyes. "I'm Zomby," it said. "But everyone runs away when they see me. They think I'm going to eat brains, but I really just want to play catch."
Leo's orange cap seemed to glow warm on his head. He remembered how lonely he felt before he met Mia. "I'll play with you!" Leo said. "But first, we need something magical to make you look less... well, zombie-ish."
In a tiny stone pond, a goldfish with shimmering rainbow scales popped up. "I can help!" said the goldfish. "True friendship shines brighter than any scary appearance." The goldfish blew a stream of sparkling bubbles that floated around Zomby. Suddenly, Zomby's gray skin turned a cheerful purple, with flowers blooming on his clothes.
"Thank you!" Zomby beamed. "Would you... be my friend?"
Leo grinned. "Always."
From that day on, Leo, Mia, and Zomby played baseball every weekend. And sometimes, when the sunlight hit Leo's orange cap just right, he could see tiny rainbows dancing around them—reminders that the best magic comes from looking past appearances and welcoming everyone with an open heart.
