The Orange Cable Secret

Lily was exploring her grandmother's attic when she spotted something peculiar. Behind an old trunk, a bright orange cable stretched across the floorboards, disappearing through a tiny hole in the wall.

"Grandma, what's this?" Lily called, tugging gently on the cable.

"Ah," her grandmother smiled, appearing in the doorway. "That cable has been there longer than I've been alive. No one knows where it leads."

Lily's heart raced with excitement. She grabbed her flashlight and followed the orange cable through the house, out the back door, and into the garden. The cable wove through rose bushes and under the old oak tree until it reached something Lily had never noticed before—a hidden pool tucked behind a wall of ivy.

The water shimmered like liquid diamonds, and in the center swam the most beautiful goldfish Lily had ever seen. Its scales sparkled in every color of the rainbow, and it seemed to glow from within.

"You found me," the goldfish spoke in a voice like gentle bells.

Lily gasped. "You can talk?"

"I've been waiting for someone brave enough to follow the orange cable," the goldfish said, swimming closer. "My name is Fin, and this is the Pool of Wishes. But I'm lonely here."

Lily sat by the water's edge. "I can be your friend, Fin. I visit Grandma every summer."

Fin's eyes twinkled. "Then I shall give you a gift. Every true friend who finds this pool will receive one wish—but only if they promise to use it to help others."

Lily thought carefully. Her little brother Timmy had been sad about moving to a new school. "I wish for Timmy to find a best friend who loves dinosaurs as much as he does."

The water bubbled and sparkled. "Granted," Fin said. "But remember, Lily—the orange cable appears only to those with kind hearts. Keep yours pure, and you'll always find your way back to me."

That summer, Lily visited the pool every day. She and Fin shared stories and laughter, and when she returned home, Timmy ran to greet her.

"Lily! I met Alex at school! He has a T-Rex shirt and everything!"

Lily smiled, knowing some magic was real, and the best kind comes from friendship, kindness, and being brave enough to follow an orange cable into the unknown.
