The Orange Bull's Secret

Lily loved exploring behind her house, especially with her best friend Buster, a scruffy brown dog with one floppy ear. One autumn afternoon, they followed a butterfly past the old oak tree and discovered something magical—a grove where every leaf shimmered like gold.

In the center stood the most magnificent bull Lily had ever seen. His fur was the color of a ripe orange, and his horns curved like crescent moons. Buster growled softly, hiding behind Lily's legs.

"Don't be afraid," Lily whispered, though her heart beat fast. The orange bull lowered his giant head and nudged her hand with his velvety nose. His eyes were kind and ancient, full of secrets.

Suddenly, something groaned from behind the trees. A shadowy figure stumbled toward them—stiff, jerky, and strange. Buster barked wildly! Lily grabbed his collar, terrified it might be a zombie from her brother's scary stories.

But then the figure stepped into the sunlight. It wasn't a zombie at all—it was an old gardener, Mr. Willow, moving stiffly because his back hurt! He carried a basket of oranges.

"You found him!" Mr. Willow smiled, stretching carefully. "This orange bull appears only to children with pure hearts. He guards the magic oranges that grant one wish each harvest."

Lily's eyes widened. The bull nudged an orange toward her. It glowed softly in her hands.

"What will you wish for?" Mr. Willow asked.

Lily thought carefully. She looked at Buster, who was now happily letting the bull scratch his ear. She thought about her grandmother, who missed walking in her garden.

"I wish for Grandma's knees to feel better so she can dance with me again."

The orange bull bowed his head, and the orange pulsed with warm light. That evening, Grandma called Lily, excited and surprised. "My knees! The pain is gone! Let's dance!"

Lily learned that day that scary things aren't always what they seem, and kindness unlocks magic. Every autumn, she and Buster return to visit their friend the orange bull, who always saves them the sweetest orange of all.
