The Orange Bull of Crystal Creek
Seven-year-old Leo lived on a dusty farm where the only excitement was watching the old bull graze. But everything changed the day he found the glowing orange near the creek.
The orange pulsed like a tiny heartbeat. Curious, Leo tossed it into the water. Suddenly, the creek began to bubble and swirl. The water rose upward, shaping itself into the form of a bull—but not like any bull Leo had ever seen. This creature was made entirely of flowing water, with streaks of brilliant orange light running through its transparent body.
"I am the Water Bull," the creature spoke in a voice like gentle rain. "And you have freed me from a hundred years of sleep."
Leo's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"I can do many things." The Water Bull lowered its shimmering head. "Climb on, friend. Let me show you the world.
Friend! Leo had never had a friend before. With a delighted laugh, he climbed onto the Water Bull's back. They galloped across the creek's surface—then up! Higher and higher until the farm became a tiny patchwork quilt below.
They raced through clouds that tasted like cotton candy. They followed rivers that wound through mountains like silver ribbons. The Water Bull showed Leo hidden valleys where flowers sang and streams flowed uphill just because they felt like it.
"Why are you helping me?" Leo asked as they watched the sunset paint the sky in shades of peach and plum.
The Water Bull's orange stripes glowed warmly. "Because magic chooses those who believe in it. And you, Leo, have never stopped believing."
That night, when the Water Bull returned Leo home, it left him with a gift: a small orange that glowed with magic. "Whenever you need a friend," it whispered, "throw this into any water. I will come."
Leo kept the orange safe, knowing that adventure was never far away. And sometimes, when he looked at the old bull grazing in the field, he wondered if magic wasn't just hidden in the most ordinary things, waiting for someone to believe.
