The Orange-Bellied Bull's Secret Pool

Lily discovered the magic on a hot summer afternoon. Behind her family's old shed, where nobody ever went, she found an ordinary-looking orange rolling across the grass. But when she picked it up, it glowed golden warmth!

"Follow me!" squeaked a tiny voice.

Lily gasped as the orange hopped from her palm and bounced toward a hidden path. She chased after it through bushes until she found the most beautiful swimming pool she'd ever seen. The water sparkled like liquid diamonds, and floating in the middle was a baby bull with bright orange patches on his white belly.

"I'm Barnaby!" the bull said, swimming gracefully to the edge. "And this is the Starlight Pool!"

Barnaby explained that he'd been cursed by a grumpy wizard to live alone in the magical pool forever. Only someone with a pure heart could find the orange key—that's what Lily held—and break the spell.

"But I'm just a kid," Lily said. "How can I help?"

Barnaby smiled. "You don't need magic. You need a friend."

Suddenly, the wizard appeared! He swung a magic padel at them. "Leave my prisoner alone!"

Lily stood tall. "Barnaby isn't a prisoner. He's my friend!"

The orange in her hand burst into brilliant light. "Friendship," it hummed, "is the strongest magic of all."

The wizard's padel turned into flowers. His angry frown became a smile. "I've been lonely for so long," he whispered. "I forgot what kindness looks like."

Barnaby swam to shore and stepped onto dry ground for the first time in forever. The orange patches on his belly shimmered like tiny stars.

"Thank you, Lily," the wizard said. "Your friendship broke not just Barnaby's curse, but mine too."

That summer, Lily visited the Starlight Pool every day. She learned to swim alongside Barnaby, played games with the transformed wizard, and discovered that the best magic of all isn't found in oranges or enchanted pools—it's found in true friendships.

And sometimes, when she looked closely at her favorite orange tree, she could see its fruit glowing just a little bit, as if winking at her.
