The Orange Baseball's Magic
Leo loved baseball more than anything. He practiced every day in his backyard, hitting balls into the warm summer sky. But today something strange happened. When his baseball rolled past the old oak tree, it came back glowing bright orange!
Leo picked up the magical orange baseball. It felt warm and tingly in his hands. "Who threw this?" a voice called out.
Leo jumped! Behind him stood a greenish boy with messy hair and patchwork clothes. "I'm Zed," the boy said. "I'm a zombie, but don't worry—I'm a friendly one. I've been asleep in this tree for fifty years!"
Leo wasn't scared. He could see Zed's kind eyes. "Want to play baseball?" Leo asked.
Zed's face lit up. "I used to love baseball! Back in 1974, I was the best pitcher in town." He tried to throw the orange baseball, but his arm creaked and cracked. "Oh no," Zed sighed. "I'm too stiff and rusty. I'll never play again."
"Maybe the magic baseball can help!" Leo said. He handed Zed the glowing orange ball. As Zed held it, something amazing happened. His joints stopped creaking. His skin turned from green to a healthy pink.
"You know what," Zed said happily, "I don't need to be perfect. I just need to have fun!" And with that, he threw a perfect pitch.
They played all afternoon. Zed taught Leo old-fashioned baseball tricks. Leo helped Zed feel like a regular kid again. The magic orange baseball sparkled with joy every time they laughed.
By sunset, Zed's transformation was complete. He wasn't a zombie anymore—just a boy who had been waiting fifty years to make a friend.
"Thank you, Leo," Zed said. "You taught me that being yourself is better than being perfect. And friends make everything more fun!"
The orange baseball still glows sometimes. And if you visit Leo's backyard on summer evenings, you might see two boys playing baseball—one modern kid and one boy from 1974, finally home again.
