The Orange Baseball of Wonder
Emma loved baseball. Every afternoon after school, she'd practice pitching against the old wooden fence in her backyard. But today, something magical happened.
Behind the garage, she found the strangest thing—a glowing orange resting on a patch of moss. It shimmered like a sunset trapped in fruit form. Emma picked it up, and warm tingles danced across her fingertips.
"What are you?" she whispered.
The orange pulsed in her hand, as if answering. Then it rolled toward the garden hose, where a small puddle shimmered in the afternoon sun. Emma watched, breathless, as the orange tumbled into the water.
Splash!
But instead of floating, the orange burst into golden light. When the sparkles faded, a baseball sat in the puddle—bright orange with stitching that gleamed like tiny stars.
Emma gasped. She picked up the magical baseball, and suddenly she could hear it humming with energy. When she threw it toward the fence, the ball didn't just hit the wood—it RIPPLED through it like the fence was made of water!
Behind the fence, Emma saw a whole meadow filled with children playing baseball with glowing balls in every color of the rainbow. They waved for her to join them.
"Come play!" a girl with purple hair called. "Our orange baseball brought you here!"
Emma stepped through the watery fence into the most magical game ever. The baseball field had clouds for bases, and whenever someone hit the ball, fountains of sparkling water erupted instead of dust.
They played until sunset, and Emma made more friends than she'd ever had. When it was time to leave, the orange baseball transformed back into a glowing orange fruit.
"Keep it," her new friends said. "It'll show you wonder whenever you need it."
Now Emma knows that magic exists in the most unexpected places—even in a game of baseball, if you have the courage to believe in wonder.
