The Orange Baseball Magic
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he would grab his favorite orange baseball—the one that glowed like sunset—and run to the park. His dad had given it to him, and Leo felt brave whenever he held it.
One afternoon, Leo was running toward home plate when he saw something strange. A girl stood by the old oak tree, moving slowly with her arms stretched out stiff like a zombie. Leo stopped. Was she... a zombie?
His heart pounded, but curiosity won. He crept closer.
The girl sighed and dropped her arms. "I'm not a zombie! I'm practicing my zombie walk for the school play."
Leo laughed with relief. "I'm Leo. Want to play baseball instead?"
"I'm Maya! And yes!" Her eyes sparkled.
They played until the sky turned purple—running bases, throwing the orange ball back and forth, and making up silly zombie cheers whenever someone scored. Maya was fast, and Leo was great at catching. They made the perfect team.
When the orange baseball began to glow in the twilight, something magical happened. With every throw, tiny golden sparkles danced around it.
"Did you see that?" Maya breathed.
Leo nodded. "It only glows when I'm having fun with a friend."
Maya grinned. "Then tomorrow, we'll make it glow even brighter."
As Leo walked home, orange baseball in hand, he realized something wonderful: sometimes the best adventures start when you're brave enough to say hello, even to zombies who turn out to be new friends.
