The Not-So-Zombie Goldfish
Lily peered into her fishbowl, worried. Finny, her goldfish, floated at the top, not moving his fins at all.
"Finny?" she whispered, tapping the glass gently.
No movement.
"Oh no!" Lily gasped. "Finny's become a zombie fish!"
She knew about zombies from her big brother's comic books – creatures that moved all slow and stared at nothing. Finny looked just like that!
Lily's cat, Whiskers, jumped onto the table and stared at the fishbowl with his big green eyes.
"We have to help him!" Lily told Whiskers. She grabbed her favorite storybook about magical oceans. "I'll read him an underwater adventure. That'll wake him up!"
She read about mermaids and treasure chests, about singing whales and dancing dolphins. She made up silly voices for all the sea creatures. Whiskers purred loudly, like a motorboat, which made Lily giggle.
Suddenly – FLIP! Finny's tail moved! Then – ZOOM! – he swam around his bowl in a golden blur.
"He's ALIVE!" Lily cheered, hugging Whiskers. "You weren't a zombie fish at all, Finny. You were just bored!"
The next day, Lily learned something important. Her mom explained that sometimes fish nap floating at the top, and they need fun things in their bowl to stay happy.
Lily added colorful marbles and a tiny castle to Finny's home. She talked to him every day, and Whiskers kept watch from his spot on the table.
Finny never acted like a zombie again. Instead, he swam joyfully, chasing his reflection in the glass.
Lily learned that things aren't always what they seem. What looks scary might just need a little love – and a really good story – to come alive again.
And that's the truth about zombies, fish, friendship, and magic.
