The Not-So-Spuzzy Zombie
Lily loved her backyard baseball games. Every sunny afternoon, she'd grab her favorite glove and race outside to play with her best friend, a curious puppet she'd named Zom-Bee.
"Zom-Bee wants to play baseball today!" Lily announced, holding up the fuzzy green puppet with googly eyes.
Her grandmother laughed. "That puppet looks like a little zombie, Lily! All floppy and silly-looking!"
Lily gasped. "A zombie? Like in the movies?"
"No, no," Grandma winked. "This is a friendly zombie. I think Zom-Bee needs something special before the big game."
Grandma reached into her apron pocket and pulled out a shiny orange capsule. "This is a magic vitamin for imagination! One chew, and you'll see the world in wonderful new ways."
Lily popped the vitamin into her mouth. It tasted like sunshine and dreams!
Suddenly, the backyard transformed. The baseball diamond sparkled like diamonds. The trees whispered cheers. And Zom-Bee? The fuzzy puppet began to dance!
"Play ball!" shouted the umpire bird from the fence.
Lily stepped up to the plate, heart pounding with excitement. She swung her bat—CRACK! The ball soared through the sky, leaving a rainbow trail.
"Run, Lily, run!" Zom-Bee cheered, flopping happily.
She rounded the bases, sliding into home plate just as the magic vitamin's sparkle began to fade. But something remained—a warm, happy feeling deep inside.
"I did it!" Lily hugged her puppet. "And you helped, Zom-Bee!"
Grandma smiled. "The real magic wasn't the vitamin, sweetie. It was believing in yourself and your friends—even the floppy, green puppet kind."
That night, Lily tucked Zom-Bee into bed, already dreaming of tomorrow's baseball adventure. Some zombies, she decided, make the very best friends.
