The Not-So-Spooky Garden Friend

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's magical garden. Every Saturday, she'd skip through the gate with her fluffy golden dog, Sunny, bouncing beside her. The garden was full of wonders: singing flowers, sparkling butterflies, and trees that whispered secrets.

One afternoon, Lily spotted something strange behind the old palm tree. It was green and leafy, moving very slowly. "Is that... a zombie?" she gasped, remembering the spooky stories her older brother told.

Sunny wagged his tail and trotted over to investigate. The green thing shivered and hid behind the palm tree's wide trunk.

"Hello?" Lily called out softly. "We won't hurt you."

Slowly, a leafy head peeked out. It looked like a walking plant! "I'm not scary," it said in a whispery voice. "I'm a magical garden sprite. I've been sleeping underground for fifty years, and I just woke up. That's why I move so slow—my roots are still sleepy!"

Lily giggled. "You're not a zombie at all! You're wonderful!"

The sprite smiled, and flowers bloomed instantly around its feet. "I'm Fern. Will you be my friend? Everyone runs away when they see me."

"We'll be your friends!" Lily said, hugging Fern's leafy arm. Sunny barked happily and licked Fern's face.

Every Saturday after that, Lily brought Fern special plant food and stories about the world. Fern made the garden more beautiful than ever, growing rainbow roses and chocolate-scented lilies. And Lily learned that sometimes, the things that seem scary at first are actually just misunderstood friends waiting for someone brave enough to say hello.

The palm tree watched over them all, whispering its approval in the breeze. And Sunny? He was just happy to have another friend to play with—especially one who grew dog treats from the ground!
