The Not-So-Spooky Garden Adventure

zombiegoldfishdogfriend

Lily was eight years old and loved her garden more than anything. She had a best friend named Buster, a scruffy golden dog with floppy ears who followed her everywhere. One afternoon, they made a magical discovery.

Behind the old oak tree, something was moving. It wasn't scary like the monsters in Lily's storybooks. It was a zombie goldfish!

The little orange fish wobbled on tiny fins through the grass. His scales sparkled like sunset, and instead of saying "BRAAAINS," he bubbled, "FRIIENDS!"

"You're not scary at all," Lily whispered.

Buster wagged his tail so hard his whole body wiggled. The zombie goldfish did a happy wiggle too!

"I'm Bubbles," the fish said in a bubbly voice. "I used to live in a bowl, but I wanted to see the WORLD! Magic brought me back, and now I can have adventures!"

Lily's eyes grew wide. "Will you be our friend?"

"YES!" Bubbles cheered. "But I'm still getting used to these walking fins."

They spent the afternoon showing Bubbles everything wonderful. They smelled roses (Bubbles sneezed bubbles!). They watched clouds (Bubbles tried to swim through the air!). They even had a picnic with cucumber slices—Bubbles's favorite.

When the sun began to set, Bubbles grew tired. "The magic is sleepy," he yawned. "I need to return to my pond before dark. But I'll never forget my new friend!"

"Or us!" Lily hugged him carefully. "Come back anytime!"

Bubbles waddled toward the garden pond, leaving sparkly fish-scale footsteps behind him. As he slipped into the water, he turned and waved. "Being different is what makes us SPECIAL! Never forget that!"

Lily and Buster watched until only ripples remained. That night, Lily dreamed of fish walking on moonbeams and dogs with butterfly wings, and she knew that the best friends are the ones who accept you exactly as you are—zombie fish, silly dogs, or curious kids alike.
