The Not-So-Scary Zombie's Sports Day

Lily and Max were the best friends who loved playing at Sunny Creek Park. One Saturday morning, they discovered something strange near the old padel court. A green figure was slowly shuffling toward them.

"Is that a... zombie?" Max whispered, hiding behind Lily.

The creature stopped. It had messy green hair, painted face, and wore a funny t-shirt that said "ZACH" on the back.

"Rawr!" the zombie called out, then burst into giggles. "Gotcha!"

Lily gasped. "Zach! You scared us!"

Zach was their neighbor who loved pretending to be a zombie. But today, he looked sad. "Nobody wants to play with me at the Sports Day contest. They say I'm too slow."

Lily and Max looked at each other. "We'll be your team!" Lily said. "What events are there?"

"First, the relay race. Lots of running," Zach explained. "Then swimming at the creek. Finally, padel tournament!"

The three friends practiced every day. Zach wasn't fast at running, but he never stopped trying. When he tripped, he'd get right back up. When he was last, he'd smile and say, "At least I'm still moving!"

At the Sports Day, the running race began. The other teams zoomed ahead. Zach shuffled slowly, but Lily and Max cheered so loud that Zach found hidden energy. He crossed the finish line last, but with the biggest smile.

Next came swimming. Zach splashed and paddled, going his own slow pace. The other children rushed ahead, but Zach noticed something they missed—a beautiful golden fish swimming near the bottom.

Finally, the padel tournament. Zach's team was against the fastest runners. But Zach had a secret: he'd been practicing his aim.

SMASH! Zach hit the ball perfectly. His opponents were so surprised they missed.

Zach's team didn't win first place. But the judges gave them a special medal: The Golden Heart Award.

"For never giving up," the judge announced, "and showing that true winners are those who enjoy the game!"

That day, Lily, Max, and Zach learned something important. You don't have to be the fastest or the strongest. You just need to keep moving, help your friends, and always remember to have fun.

And Zach? He was still a zombie—only now, he was a zombie with a golden medal around his neck, and two best friends by his side.
