The Not-So-Scary Zombie
Mia had the best friend anyone could ask for - Zippy, her handmade zombie doll. Grandma had sewn him with bright green thread and given him button eyes that sparkled like tiny stars. Zippy wasn't scary like the zombies in movies. He was soft and cuddly, with a smile stitched right onto his face.
But lately, Zippy seemed tired. His green stitches drooped, and he stopped joining Mia for tea parties.
"That's because Zippy needs the Morning-Glow Vitamin," said a tiny voice.
Mia looked around her room. There, swimming in circles in her fishbowl, was Fin - her goldfish! But Fin was glowing with rainbow colors.
"Goldfish don't talk!" Mia gasped.
"Special goldfish do when there's magic to be made," Fin bubbled. "The Morning-Glow Vitamin grows at the top of the Dream-Catcher Tree. Want to come?"
Mia nodded, and suddenly she was shrinking smaller and smaller until she could fit right into the fishbowl. Fin grew a pair of sparkly wings.
Together they flew through the window into a world made of cotton-candy clouds. They followed a path of floating lily pads to an enormous tree with leaves that chimed like tiny bells when the wind blew.
"The vitamin is at the very top," Fin said. "But there's a secret - it only works if you give it with friendship."
Mia climbed and climbed, past branches that smelled like cookies and strawberries. Finally, at the top, she found it - the Morning-Glow Vitamin. It wasn't a pill or medicine. It was a beautiful golden fruit that shimmered like morning sunlight.
She carried it all the way back down, her heart pounding. When she reached her room again (now big-size), she gently placed the golden fruit beside Zippy.
"Wake up, Zippy," she whispered, giving him a big hug. "I made this just for you because you're my best friend."
Suddenly, Zippy's button eyes twinkled. His green stitches perked right up. He didn't just move - he DANCED! He spun around and did a silly little zombie wiggle that made Mia laugh so hard she fell over.
Mia looked at the golden fruit. It wasn't glowing anymore. Fin swam over and whispered, "The vitamin wasn't magic, Mia. The magic was your love. Zippy just needed to know you still cared."
Mia hugged Zippy tight. From then on, she never forgot to play with her zombie doll, and sometimes - just sometimes - Fin would glow rainbow colors again, reminding her that the best magic of all is friendship.
And every morning, Mia would say, "Good morning, Zippy! Good morning, Fin!" And her room would fill with sparkle and joy.
