The Not-So-Scary Zombie

hairzombiespyfriend

Lily had the wildest, curliest, most untamable hair in the whole third grade. Every morning, her mom tried to brush it, but her hair had a mind of its own – it sprang up like a golden fountain!

One sunny afternoon, Lily and her best friend Ben were playing secret spy in the backyard. They had their spy notebooks and magnifying glasses, ready for adventure.

"Spy mission: investigate the old oak tree," Ben whispered importantly.

Lily nodded, her curls bouncing with excitement. They crept toward the tree when suddenly – CRUNCH! A slow, shuffling figure emerged from behind it.

"It's a zombie!" Ben gasped, hiding behind his magnifying glass.

The creature WAS shuffling slowly. Its clothes were muddy, and its hair stuck straight up like it had seen a ghost. But then the "zombie" spoke:

"Hello? Does... does anyone have any band-aids?"

Lily stepped forward bravely. "Are you actually a zombie?"

The boy looked confused. "No, I'm new here. I fell off my skateboard and scraped my knee. I've been walking slowly because it hurts."

His name was Toby, and he wasn't a zombie at all – just a kid with wild hair like Lily's, who had fallen off his skateboard while exploring the neighborhood.

"We're secret spies," Lily announced. "Spies help people."

"And friends help friends," Ben added.

They marched Toby to Lily's house, where her mom cleaned his knee and gave him cookies. Toby's wild hair matched Lily's, and they laughed about how they looked like hair twins.

"Want to join our spy club?" Lily asked.

Toby grinned. "Only if I can be the spy who saves people from scraped knees."

From that day on, the three friends had the best adventures. And Lily learned that sometimes, the scariest things aren't scary at all – they're just future friends you haven't met yet.
