The Not-So-Scary Pyramid

zombiepyramiddog

Lily and her golden dog, Barnaby, loved exploring behind their house. One afternoon, they pushed through tall weeds and discovered something amazing—a pyramid made of glittering stones, half-buried in the dirt!

"Barnaby, look!" Lily whispered. The pyramid had a tiny door at the bottom.

Barnaby sniffed it excitedly. His tail thumped against the stones.

The door creaked open. Inside, passages glowed with mysterious blue light. Lily and Barnaby crept forward, their footsteps echoing softly.

Suddenly, a shadowy figure shuffled toward them.

Barnaby growled, but Lily stepped forward bravely.

"Who are you?" she called out.

The creature stepped into the light. He was wrapped in dusty bandages, moving stiffly. He looked like a zombie!

"Please don't be afraid," the zombie's voice rumbled like distant thunder. "I am Zani, the guardian of this pyramid. But I'm not scary—I'm just very lonely."

Zani explained that he had been guarding the pyramid for three thousand years, protecting a special secret. But everyone who saw him ran away before he could explain.

Lily felt bad. "That's so sad! Why were you guarding it?"

"The secret inside can make any garden grow forever," Zani said sadly. "But I promised never to leave until someone kind came along."

Lily smiled. "Someone kind came along—both of us!"

Zani's bandaged face lit up. He led them to a beautiful chamber filled with glowing seeds. "These are for you."

Barnaby wagged his tail and licked Zani's hand. Zani laughed—it sounded like autumn leaves crunching.

"I'm free!" Zani cheered. "Will you be my friends?"

Lily, Barnaby, and Zani planted the magical seeds together. That night, Zani moved into Lily's garden, where he finally had friends and the most beautiful flowers in the world.

Sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to see their heart.
