The Night the Goldfish Woke Up
Leo loved his pet goldfish, Goldie, who lived in a small bowl on his nightstand. Every night, Leo would whisper, "Goodnight, my little friend." Goldie would blow bubbles and wiggle her orange tail.
One stormy evening, lightning flashed so bright it turned Leo's room purple. CRACK! Thunder shook the house. When Leo peeked at Goldie's bowl, he couldn't believe his eyes—Goldie was floating OUT OF THE WATER!
"Leo!" squeaked Goldie. "The lightning magic is strong tonight! Come on an adventure!"
Leo's eyes grew wide as Goldie swam through the air like a tiny orange spaceship. They zoomed out the window, past raindrops that sparkled like diamonds.
In the meadow, a enormous bull sat chewing grass. "Please don't hurt us!" Leo trembled.
The bull laughed gently. "I'm Barnaby! I may look scary, but I only eat flowers and give rides to mouse friends."
Suddenly, something groaned from the old oak tree. A zombie-like figure stumbled out—green skin, crooked arms, tangled hair.
Leo gasped. "A zombie!"
But Goldie swam closer. "Wait! That's not a zombie. That's a GROAN-BEAN! They're made from old toys children forgot, and they just want someone to play with."
The groan-bean smiled shyly. Its button eye twinkled. "Will you be my friend?"
Leo realized his mistake. "I'm sorry I judged you by how you looked. Let's play tag!"
All night long, Leo, Goldie, Barnaby the bull, and the groan-bean played chase through the magical lightning-lit meadow. They learned that true friends come in all shapes and sizes—even ones that might seem scary at first.
When morning came, Goldie swam back to her bowl. The bull returned to his meadow. The groan-bean became a forgotten toy once more, but now he had a secret friend.
Leo knew the best magic wasn't lightning at all—it was seeing with your heart.
