The Night the Fish Ran

Finley was a small goldfish with a very big dream. While most fish were happy swimming circles in their bowls, Finley spent his days pressing his nose against the glass, watching the world outside. He especially loved watching the old tomcat's dog, Bolt, running across the green grass.

"If only I could run like Bolt," Finley would sigh, blowing bubbles that floated to the water's surface.

One evening, as dark clouds gathered across the sky, Finley's human left his bowl on the windowsill. Suddenly, something magical happened. A bolt of lightning struck the backyard, and where it hit, a crystal pyramid began to grow, sparkling with electric blue light.

Bolt, the adventurous dog, came running toward the strange light. But when he reached the pyramid, he stopped and looked back at Finley's bowl.

"Come see!" Bolt barked, his tail wagging excitedly. "This pyramid is magic!"

Finley watched in wonder as the lightning struck again, and the pyramid's glow wrapped around his bowl. Suddenly, his fins felt strong, and his scales tingled with energy. With a splash, Finley leaped right out of his water and landed on soft grass—running!

He was actually running! Finley and Bolt chased each other around the glowing pyramid while lightning painted the sky in brilliant purples and golds. They played until the storm passed, and the crystal pyramid faded away like a dream.

When morning came, Finley was back in his bowl, and the pyramid was gone. But something had changed. Finley smiled as he swam his morning laps, because now he knew the truth: even a small goldfish could do big things when magic came to visit, and dreams were worth keeping, no matter how impossible they seemed.

Bolt still stopped by the window every day, and Finley would swim a little faster, remembering the wonderful night when, for a little while, a goldfish ran free.
