The Night the Bear Was Kind
Timmy was a small boy with a very big dream - he wanted to be a baseball star. Every day after school, he practiced hitting his lucky baseball in the backyard until the sun went down. But one terrible afternoon, Timmy hit the ball too hard. It sailed over the fence and disappeared into the dark woods beyond.
Timmy was terrified. His dad had told him never to go into those woods because a bear lived there - a scary bear with enormous claws.
That night, Timmy sat by his fish tank, feeling sad. His pet goldfish, Goldie, swam to the glass and bubbled.
"Don't worry, Timmy," said a tiny voice. Timmy rubbed his eyes. Goldie was speaking!
"I've been a secret spy in the woods for weeks," Goldie explained, her scales shimmering like sunset. "I watch over you. And Timmy? The bear isn't scary at all."
Suddenly, Timmy's stuffed bear, Bruno, sat up on his bed. Bruno twitched his fuzzy brown nose.
"I've been waiting for Goldie to tell you," Bruno said. "I'm your magical bear friend. Tonight, we're going on an adventure!"
Goldie swam out of her bowl - water surrounded her like a magical bubble. "Follow me!"
Together, the three friends crept into the woods. Fireflies danced around them like floating stars. The air smelled of pine needles and magic. An old cable lay across the stream like a bridge. They carefully crossed it into the moonlit clearing.
There sat the great bear. He was enormous, yes. But his eyes were kind and gentle. He was guarding Timmy's baseball like a precious treasure.
"Your ball has a wonderful bounce," the bear said in a voice like honey. "I was keeping it safe."
Timmy's fear melted away. The bear returned the baseball, and Timmy realized something wonderful: sometimes the things we fear the most are actually the most magical friends we could ever find.
From that night on, Timmy visited his bear friend often. Goldie continued her secret spy missions, Bruno came to life whenever adventure called, and Timmy became the bravest baseball player - because he knew that magic and friendship were the real lucky charms.
