The Night The Balls Came Alive
Lily loved her padel lessons every Tuesday. But this Tuesday was different—dark clouds gathered overhead as she walked to the court with her best friend Max.
"Looks like a storm's coming," Max said, swinging his racquet.
Coach Maria smiled. "Just a few drills before the rain. Let's practice!"
Lily hit the padel ball hard. It sailed over the fence and disappeared into the forbidden garden behind the sports club. No one ever went there. It was overgrown with vines and shadows.
"I'll get it!" Lily said bravely.
She pushed through the bushes. Suddenly—CRACK! Lightning struck a tree just feet away. The ball glowed with magical green light.
Then something strange happened. All around her, balls began to wobble and rise. Old ones, new ones, red ones, blue ones—they were moving on their own!
"Zombie balls!" Lily gasped, remembering the silly stories her older brother told.
But these zombie balls weren't scary. They bounced happily around her, one even nuzzled her hand like a puppy. More lightning flashed, and now the nets were dancing too, waving like friendly jellyfish.
"Play!" one ball seemed to say as it bounced toward her racquet.
Lily laughed. This wasn't scary at all—it was magical! She hit the zombie ball, and it whooshed through the air leaving sparkles behind. Max and Coach Maria had come looking for her and stood with wide eyes.
"They want to play!" Lily called.
Soon, they were all playing padel with the magical balls. The zombie balls helped perfect shots, bouncing exactly where needed. The lightning above wasn't frightening anymore—it was the light that made this magic possible.
When the storm passed, the balls returned to normal. But Lily knew the truth: sometimes, the things we fear are actually just waiting to show us something wonderful.
Every Tuesday after that, Lily waved at the garden before practice. Sometimes, just sometimes, a ball would wiggle back.
