The Night My Brain Went Full Zombie

palmzombiebullbeariphone

My palm was literally sweating as I stood outside Jordan's house, clutching my phone like it was a lifeline. Friday night. The big party. The one everyone would be talking about on Monday. And I was about to walk in there like I had any clue how to function in social situations.

"You good?" Marcus asked, giving me that look that said I was absolutely not good.

"Totally good," I lied, wiping my palm on my jeans for the third time. My brain had gone full zombie mode—walking, talking, but definitely not alive.

The moment we stepped inside, I saw HER. Chloe. The kind of pretty that made your forget how to English. She was by the drinks, laughing at something some guy said, and I immediately felt like a bull in a china shop. Which, ironically, was exactly what happened two seconds later when I tried to casually lean against a table that was definitely not stable.

Bear with me here—it gets worse.

The table tipped. I tipped. A full bowl of tortilla chips chose that exact moment to betray me. Chips went everywhere. People stared. And the worst part? My iphone decided to capture the whole thing on video because apparently I'd accidentally opened my camera while trying to look smooth.

Chloe walked over. I thought she was going to laugh. Instead, she picked up a chip from my shoulder and popped it in her mouth.

"Nice entrance," she said, grinning. "Wanna help me clean this mess up?"

And that's how I learned that sometimes your most embarrassing moments become your best stories. Also, that Chloe thinks my clumsiness is endearing. I'll take it.
