The Night Lightning Woke the Garden
Emma's dog, Barnaby, was a scruffy golden terrier with the most excellent nose for adventure. He loved sleeping in the garden, especially during summer storms. One hot July night, when lightning flashed across the sky like firecrackers, something magical happened.
Barnaby started barking at the old papaya tree behind their house. Emma ran outside in her bare feet and saw something amazing. The lightning had struck the papaya tree, but instead of burning it, the fruit began to glow with soft purple light!
Then, from behind the tree, emerged the most surprising visitor. A zombie gardener named Z stepped out, his skin a gentle green color with tiny flowers sprouting from his pockets. He wasn't scary at all — he was kind and watched over the magical papaya tree.
Z explained that special lightning only came once every hundred years, and it made the tree's fruit grant wishes to those with pure hearts. But he also whispered a warning: a fierce bull guarded the tree's magic, and only the bravest could approach.
Emma trembled but stepped forward. Barnaby stayed right beside her. The bull appeared from the shadows — but it wasn't fierce at all. It was made entirely of starlight, with galaxies swirling in its eyes. The starlight bull lowered its head and nuzzled Emma's hand, then ate a glowing papaya.
Suddenly, Emma understood. The zombie gardener wasn't frightening. The starlight bull wasn't fierce. Things that seem scary aren't always what they appear. Sometimes, like the magical papaya, the most wonderful surprises come from the most unexpected places.
Every lightning storm after that, Emma and Barnaby visited Z and the starlight bull. They learned that courage means seeing past appearances, and that true friends come in all shapes — even green, flower-covered ones.
