The Night Goldfish Danced with Lightning

Lily loved her pet goldfish, Orange Peel. He was just an ordinary fish with shimmering orange scales, swimming in circles in his small bowl on her nightstand. Or so she thought.

One stormy evening, Lily was lying in bed watching lightning flash outside her window. Her parents had given her an old iPhone to play games on, and she was using it to take pictures of the storm through the rain-splattered glass.

Suddenly, the room filled with a brilliant purple light. Another bolt of lightning struck—much closer this time. Lily gasped and looked at Orange Peel's bowl.

What she saw made her drop her iPhone onto her blanket.

Orange Peel was glowing. Tiny sparks of silver light swirled around his bowl like miniature lightning bolts. The fish was no longer swimming in circles—he was dancing! He zipped through the water leaving trails of sparkles, as if the storm's magic had somehow traveled through the air and into his bowl.

Lily scrambled to grab her iPhone again. She had to capture this! Her hands trembled as she pointed the camera at the dancing fish.

"You're magical!" she whispered.

Orange Peel seemed to hear her. He swam to the front of the bowl and pressed his nose against the glass. For a moment, their eyes met. Then, with one final flash of silver light, he returned to his normal orange self and resumed his lazy swimming.

Lily checked her iPhone. The video showed everything—the glowing fish, the sparkles, the magical dance. She watched it over and over, amazed.

That night, Lily learned something important: the world is full of magic if you're paying attention. Sometimes it hides in the most unexpected places—even in a small glass bowl beside your bed.

From then on, whenever storms rolled through, Lily would whisper to Orange Peel, "Show me your magic again." And sometimes, just sometimes, if the lightning struck at exactly the right moment, her goldfish would dance once more.
