The Night Fish Learned to Fly
Bernie was a small goldfish with an impossibly big dream. Every night, he pressed his nose against the glass of his bowl, watching the cat named Mittens sleeping on the windowsill. Bernie didn't want to eat Mittens—he wanted to ask her what the moon tasted like.
One particularly starry evening, Mittens stretched and accidentally bumped Bernie's bowl. But instead of spilling, something magical happened. Bernie found himself floating outside the glass, discovering that moonlight had turned the air into shimmering water.
Mittens's green eyes went wide. "You're flying!" she meowed.
"Swimming," Bernie corrected happily. "Swimming through star-water!"
Just then, a clever fox appeared at the open window. Fiona, as she called herself, had been watching the house for weeks. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to try this," she said with a grin. "The moon is actually a giant pearl, and tonight it's calling dreamers to its shores."
Bernie's fins trembled with excitement. "Take me there!"
Fiona became their guide, leaping from rooftop to rooftop while Bernie swam through the moon-beam air beside her. Mittens, unable to resist such adventure, jumped down to join them.
Their journey led them to an ancient forest where they met Barnaby, a bear as old as the mountains themselves. He was carefully arranging fallen leaves into glowing patterns.
"Another group of dreamers," Barnaby rumbled gently. "The moon pearl needs guardians from every realm. Will you help me protect its magic?"
Bernie looked at his new friends—Mittens the brave cat, Fiona the clever fox, and Barnaby the wise bear. They were so different, yet somehow perfect together.
"We will," Bernie promised, and that night, four unlikely friends became the keepers of moonlight magic.
Now, whenever children wish upon falling stars, Bernie and his friends are there, making sure those dreams find their way home safely. After all, the biggest adventures often begin with the smallest dreams—and the courage to say yes to the unexpected.
