The Moonlit Friend

Finn was a small goldfish who lived in a blue glass bowl on the highest shelf of Mr. Higgins' cozy house. Every day, he watched the world through curved glass, dreaming of adventures beyond his watery home.

Outside the window, in the garden below, stood a large brass bull statue. The bull had been there for fifty years, his horns gleaming in the sun, his metal body weathered by rain and time. No one ever noticed him anymore. Not even the birds landed on his back.

But Finn noticed. Every evening, the little goldfish pressed his nose against the glass and whispered, "Goodnight, friend."

One magical moonlit night, something extraordinary happened. A sparkling cable of silver light stretched down from the moon and wrapped around the bull's brass horns. The metal began to warm and glow.

Finn watched, his scales shimmering with excitement. The bull stretched his giant metal legs. He shook his brass head. He blinked!

Through the moon-cable still connecting him to the night sky, the bull heard Finn's tiny gasp. He looked up and saw the goldfish's bowl glowing in the window.

"Hello, little friend," the bull rumbled softly. His voice sounded like distant thunder, gentle and warm.

"You're alive!" Finn bubbled, doing a happy spin.

"Only because you noticed me," the bull said. "For fifty years, I waited for someone to really see me. Your friendship woke me up."

Every night after that, the moon-cable would appear, and the bull would come to life. He told Finn stories about all the things he'd seen in the garden over the years—blooming flowers, playful children, dancing butterflies. Finn told the bull about his underwater adventures and his dreams of swimming in a big blue ocean someday.

One evening, Finn looked sad. "Tomorrow, Mr. Higgins is moving away. He's taking me with him, but we'll never see each other again."

The bull thought for a moment. "Friendship isn't about being close," he said wisely. "It's about carrying each other in your hearts. Besides, the moon connects everything. When you look up at night, remember I'm looking at the same moon."

"I'll never forget you," Finn promised.

"And I'll never stop watching over you," the bull replied. "Even if I'm just a statue again by day, my heart will always remember the goldfish who saw me."

As they said their moonlit goodbyes, Finn knew something wonderful: true friendship doesn't need cables or magic. It only needs someone who truly sees you.

And somewhere, in a garden far away, a brass bull still shines a little brighter than other statues—because every night, a goldfish's love reaches across the distance, keeping him awake in the most magical way.
