The Moonlight Pool

Lily loved the night. While other children slept, she would creep to her window and watch the moon paint silver patterns on her backyard garden.

One evening, something magical happened. Where rain had left a puddle that afternoon, moonlight gathered and swirled until it became a shimmering pool of glowing blue water, no bigger than a dinner plate but deeper than the ocean.

Something splashed!

A tiny goldfish with scales like sunset oranges and pinks swam to the surface. But this was no ordinary fish—it had a crown of stardust on its head.

"Hello, Lily," the goldfish said in a voice like tinkling bells.

Lily rubbed her eyes. "You can talk?"

"In the moonlight pool, many impossible things become possible," the fish replied. "I'm Finnick, and I've been waiting for a friend like you."

"A friend?" Lily asked, her heart fluttering.

"True friends are the rarest treasure," Finnick said. "Come closer—I'll show you something wonderful."

Lily knelt beside the glowing pool. Finnick swam in circles, creating ripples that turned into pictures—mountains made of cotton candy, rivers of lemonade, trees that grew books instead of leaves.

"This is the Dream World," Finnick explained. "But it's lonely there. Will you visit me every night?"

"Yes!" Lily promised without hesitation.

Each night after that, Lily would visit Finnick in the moonlight pool. They shared stories and laughter. Finnick taught Lily that courage doesn't mean not being afraid—it means being scared but doing something anyway. Lily taught Finnick that the best adventures are the ones you share with someone you care about.

The pool would vanish with morning's light, but their friendship remained, shining brighter than any moonbeam.

Some nights when the moon was hidden, Lily felt sad. Then she remembered what Finnick had told her: "True friendship lives in your heart, not just in moonlight."

Now whenever Lily sees a puddle reflecting the stars, she smiles, knowing that magic and friendship are everywhere—if you believe in them.

And somewhere, in a moonlight pool that appears only for those with imagination, a tiny goldfish wears a crown of stardust and waits for the friend who made his lonely world wonderful.
