The Moonlight Pool
Lily loved running through the meadow behind her house. Every evening at dusk, she'd race through the tall grass, her bare feet dancing over the cool earth. The wind whispered secrets in her ears, and the fireflies lit her path like tiny floating stars.
One Tuesday, something magical happened. As Lily paused near the old oak tree to catch her breath, she noticed a pool of water that had never been there before. But this wasn't ordinary water — it shimmered with colors that changed every time she blinked.
"Hello?" Lily called softly.
The water rippled, though no wind blew. Suddenly, a small silver fish popped its head above the surface.
"You're finally here!" said the fish. "We've been waiting for someone who loves running as much as we do."
Lily gasped. "You can talk?"
"Of course!" The fish grinned. "I'm Finn. This is the Moonlight Pool. It only appears for children with adventurous hearts. Want to see something wonderful?"
He splashed water onto Lily's feet, and suddenly, she wasn't standing on grass anymore. She was running on a path made of moonbeams, skimming across the surface of the water!
"Try it!" Finn called. "The water loves runners!"
Lily took a step, then another. The water held her up like a trampoline. She ran faster and faster, laughing as she skimmed across the pool, leaving ripples of rainbow light behind her. Other fish joined in — blue fish, gold fish, purple fish — all cheering her on.
But then Lily remembered her mother's words: "Magic should always be shared."
She stopped running. "My friends! Maya and Sam! They would love this too!"
Finn smiled. "Now that's what I like to hear. True magic multiplies when shared. Bring them tomorrow at dusk."
The next evening, Lily brought her friends. Together they ran across the moonlit water, the fish guiding their way. They laughed until their sides hurt, the pool shimmering brighter with every shared moment of joy.
Lily learned something important that summer: the best adventures aren't just about discovering magic — they're about who you discover it with. And sometimes, the most wonderful things appear when you least expect them, like a pool of moonlight waiting for friends to come running.
