The Moonlight Pool
Lily discovered the secret on a warm July evening, while fireflies danced near the old oak tree at the bottom of her garden. There, hidden behind a curtain of ivy, was a pool she had never seen before. But this wasn't like any swimming pool she had ever known.
The water shimmered like liquid silver, glowing with its own soft light. Lily knelt beside it and gasped - tiny stars were swimming beneath the surface! They were not fish, but actual little stars, trailing sparkles like comet tails.
"Hello," whispered a voice. Lily turned to see a small creature with wings like a dragonfly and skin that changed color like a soap bubble. "I'm Ripple. Would you like to join us?"
"Join you?" Lily asked. "Swimming in the... in what?"
"The Moonlight Pool," Ripple said. "It's made from tears of joy that fell from the moon when she sees children laughing. Only those with kind hearts can enter."
Lily thought of her little brother, how she shared her toys with him even when she didn't want to. She thought of how she helped Mrs. Chen carry her groceries last week. She dipped her toe into the glowing water.
It felt like being wrapped in a warm blanket! She stepped in fully, and suddenly she was swimming through air filled with tiny bubbles that popped into laughter around her. The stars swam beside her, lighting up the darkness with their sparkle.
"Make a wish," Ripple said, swimming gracefully nearby. "The Moonlight Pool grants one wish to each pure heart who visits."
Lily closed her eyes. She could wish for anything - a castle, a pony, infinite candy. But then she thought of her grandmother, whose arthritis made it hard for her to garden anymore. How Grandma missed her roses!
"I wish," Lily said softly, "for my grandmother's hands to feel better so she can plant her spring garden."
The pool erupted in sparkles! The stars swam in happy circles around Lily. When she climbed out, she noticed something shiny in her pocket - a small crystal shaped like a rose.
The next morning, Grandma was already outside in her garden, planting rose bushes with a smile on her face. Lily held the crystal in her hand and knew that sometimes the most magical swimming isn't done in regular water at all, but in pools of kindness, where wishes come true for those who think of others before themselves.
And every full moon, Lily returns to the Moonlight Pool, just to say thank you to her new friend Ripple and all the swimming stars.
