The Moonlight Bull's Secret Swim

friendbullspyswimming

Lily loved the old oak tree at the edge of Miller's Pond. Every evening, she would hide behind its trunk and watch the water sparkle in the moonlight. She was the best little spy in all of Willow Creek.

One starry night, something magical happened. The water began to glow like liquid silver. Suddenly, the most magnificent bull Lily had ever seen stepped from the forest. His fur was midnight blue with stars scattered across his back like glittering diamonds. His horns curved like crescent moons, shimmering with pearlescent light.

Lily held her breath as the magical creature waded into the pond. But instead of just drinking, the moonlight bull began swimming! He glided through the water gracefully, leaving trails of starlight behind him. He splashed and played like a happy calf, tossing his head and making soft, musical snorts that sounded like wind chimes.

The bull's swimming created ripples of magic that spread across the pond. Fireflies danced over the water. Lilygasped in wonder, and a twig snapped beneath her foot.

The bull froze. His starry eyes found hers immediately.

"Please don't be afraid," Lily whispered, stepping from behind the tree. "I'm only a little spy who loves magic."

To her surprise, the bull swam to shore and approached her gently. His nose was soft as velvet when he nuzzled her palm. Lily felt warmth spread through her fingers, and she understood something wonderful: this was no ordinary bull.

"I am Orion," he spoke in a voice like rustling leaves. "I swim here each night to keep my starlight bright. In the sky, I must stand still. But here, I can play."

"Will you be my friend?" Lily asked, her heart full of hope.

Orion lowered his magnificent head. "I would like that very much. But you must promise never to tell others about my midnight swimming. Some magic must stay secret."

Lily promised. And every night after, she would visit her friend Orion. Sometimes she sat on the bank while he swam. Sometimes, if she was very lucky, he would let her ride on his back as he glided through the moonlit water, leaving trails of stardust wherever they went.

Lily learned that the best kind of spy is one who discovers secrets worth keeping, and that friendship with magical creatures is the greatest adventure of all.
