The Moonlight Bull and the Secret Pool

Lily discovered the secret pool on a Tuesday evening, when the fireflies were just beginning to flicker like tiny lanterns in the woods behind her house. The water shimmered with colors she had never seen before—swirls of purple and gold, as if someone had spilled the sunset right into the earth.

Beside the pool stretched an old cable, thick and braided with silver threads that hummed with a gentle melody. Lily had never seen anything like it. The cable disappeared into the water, sending ripples of light across the surface.

"Are you going to touch it?" a deep voice rumbled.

Lily spun around. Standing beside her was the most magnificent bull she had ever seen. His fur was the color of storm clouds, and his horns curled like crescent moons. But his eyes were warm and gentle, glowing softly like embers in a fireplace.

"I... I'm Lily," she whispered, not afraid at all.

"I am Orion," said the bull. "I guard the cable that connects all the magic pools in the world. Would you like to see?"

Lily nodded, her heart beating with excitement.

Orion lowered his massive head, and Lily climbed onto his back. They stepped into the pool, and suddenly they were floating through stars. The cable pulled them forward, faster and faster, until they tumbled into another pool—one filled with floating flowers that sang when Lily touched them.

They visited seven pools that night: pools of crystal glass, pools that reflected different worlds, pools where fish made of pure light swam in graceful patterns. At each one, Lily and Orion laughed and splashed and discovered wonders together.

When they returned to her own pool, the sky was beginning to brighten with dawn.

"Will I ever see you again?" Lily asked, sliding from Orion's back.

Orion nudged her hand with his soft nose. "The cable will always be here, and so will I. Whenever you need a friend, just touch the silver threads and think of me."

Lily ran home as the first birds began to sing, her pocket full of singing flower petals and her heart full of magic. She had found something more wonderful than any treasure—a friend who lived among the stars, and a secret that belonged only to her.

Every night after that, Lily visited the pool. Sometimes she and Orion explored new worlds together. Other times, they simply sat beside the water, watching the cable shimmer in the moonlight, grateful for the ordinary day that had turned into something extraordinary.

For Lily learned that the best adventures aren't the ones you find—they're the ones you share with a friend.
