The Moon Pool's Secret
Lily loved the night. While other children slept, she'd sit by her window, watching the moon paint silver streaks across her backyard.
One summer evening, she noticed something strange. The old palm tree at the bottom of the garden—usually still—seemed to be glowing. Its leaves shimmered like they were dusted with starlight.
Lily crept outside in her bare feet. The air smelled sweet, like jasmine and magic. As she stepped closer to the palm tree, she gasped.
Beneath its sprawling fronds lay a pool she'd never seen before. Its water wasn't ordinary—it rippled with colors, swirling with deep blues and purples, like someone had trapped a piece of the night sky right there on the ground.
She knelt beside it, and in the reflection, she saw not her own face, but another girl—someone who looked exactly like her, yet different. This girl had silver hair and eyes that held entire galaxies.
"Hello," said the reflection-girl. "I've been waiting for you."
"Who are you?" Lily whispered.
"I'm Luna, the keeper of the moon pool. Our palm trees are sisters, connected across worlds. Every night at midnight, the water between them becomes a door."
Luna held up her hand, palm open. "Place your palm here, and we can be friends."
Lily reached out. When her palm touched the water, it didn't get wet. Instead, warm tingles rushed up her arm, and suddenly she could hear music—gentle, happy laughter from somewhere beyond.
"Tonight's special," Luna said. "The water grants one wish to brave children who believe in magic."
Lily thought hard. She could wish for toys, or adventures, or even to fly. But she remembered her little brother Timmy, who had been scared of the dark since forever.
"I wish for Timmy to see that the night isn't scary. I want him to love the magic like I do."
The water bubbled with gold light. Luna smiled. "That's the bravest wish I've ever heard."
The next morning, Timmy ran into Lily's room. "Lily! I had the best dream! The moon came down and played with me, and there were glowing trees everywhere!"
Lily smiled, knowing it wasn't just a dream. That night, she visited the moon pool again, and now she and Timmy both sit beneath the palm tree, watching the water dance with colors, knowing that magic is real for those who believe—and for those who wish for others before themselves.
