The Midnight Zombie's Secret
Lily loved thunderstorms. The way the sky turned purple, the rumble of thunder like a giant tummy growling, and especially the **lightning** that painted zigzag scratches across the night. But tonight was different.
Her orange tabby cat, Marmalade, was acting strange. He kept pawing at the basement door, meowing like he'd discovered something wonderful.
"What is it, Marmalade?" Lily whispered, following him down the creaky stairs.
There, in the corner of the basement, stood the most surprising thing Lily had ever seen. A **zombie**! But not a scary one like in movies. This zombie was green and sparkly, with flowers growing in his hair and a curious, friendly smile.
"Hello," said the zombie. "I'm Zephyr. I've been asleep for a hundred years. The lightning storm woke me up!"
Lily's eyes went wide. "You're not scary at all."
Zephyr sighed, and sparkles floated from his mouth. "I'm actually quite magical, but I'm very weak. I haven't had my special **vitamin** in a century."
"What kind of vitamin?" Lily asked, fascinated.
"The Moonlight Vitamin," Zephyr explained. "It comes from catching moonbeams in a jar during a storm. It's what keeps me sparkly and strong."
Outside, thunder rumbled and lightning flashed. The perfect storm!
"I'll help you!" Lily declared. "Marmalade, you're my assistant **friend**."
The **cat** purred proudly.
Together, they found an old glass jar. When lightning struck outside, the basement window lit up, and moonlight flooded in. Zephyr taught them the special song to sing while catching the glowing light.
"Moonlight bright, make everything right! Fill this jar with magic light!"
They caught three perfect moonbeams. The jar glowed like a captured star. Zephyr drank it in one gulp, and suddenly he glowed brighter than ever.
"Thank you, Lily!" Zephyr beamed. "For your kindness and courage, I grant you one wish."
Lily thought carefully. "I wish that everyone would see that things aren't always what they seem. Even zombies can be wonderful friends."
Zephyr smiled. "That's already come true."
Lily returned to bed with Marmalade curled up beside her, the secret of the friendly zombie safely tucked in her heart. Sometimes the scariest-looking things turn out to be the most magical of all.
