The Midnight Zombie Baseball Game
Lily's orange tabby cat, Marmalade, had a secret. Every night when the moon rose, he would trot to the old baseball field behind their house. Tonight, Lily decided to follow him.
What she discovered made her gasp with wonder. Marmalade stood at home plate, wearing a tiny padel racquet strapped to his back like a shield. Around the field shuffled not one, but dozens of friendly zombies! They weren't scary at all — they wore tattered baseball uniforms and moved in slow, graceful motions.
"We need one more player," called a zombie named Zara, tipping her dusty cap to Lily. "Our magical baseball game only works with a full team."
Lily's heart raced with excitement. She'd never played baseball with zombies before!
"I'll play!" she shouted, grabbing a glowing bat that shimmered like starlight.
The game was unlike anything Lily had ever seen. When the zombies hit the ball, it didn't just fly — it danced through the air, leaving trails of sparkles. When Lily ran bases, she felt light as a feather, almost floating. Marmalade cheered from the sidelines, his purr rumbling like tiny thunder.
But something was wrong. The zombie team was losing, and Lily noticed Zara looked sad.
"What's wrong?" Lily asked between innings.
"We've never won a game," Zara sighed. "Everyone thinks zombies are scary. They won't play with us."
Lily smiled. "That's not true anymore. I'm here, and I think you're wonderful!"
With renewed spirit, Lily hit the most magical home run ever. The ball soared over the moon, creating fireworks of blue and gold. The zombies cheered, their groans sounding like happy music.
They won! Zara hugged Lily, and she felt surprisingly warm and fuzzy.
"Thank you for seeing us, not just what people think we are," Zara said.
Lily learned that night that magic happens when you open your heart to unexpected friendships. Now every full moon, she returns to the field, ready for another game with her zombie friends and her magical cat, Marmalade.
Some adventures are too wonderful to keep secret — even if they do seem a bit... spooky at first!
