The Midnight Pool Secret
Lily loved her red polka-dot hat more than anything. She wore it everywhere—even when she went swimming in her backyard pool.
One hot summer night, Lily couldn't sleep. She put on her favorite hat and tiptoed outside to the pool. The water glowed like liquid silver under the moonlight.
"What are you doing up so late?" whispered a voice.
Lily jumped! It was Orion, her best friend from next door, peeking over the fence.
"I'm going swimming," Lily said. "Want to come?"
Orion climbed over the fence in his pajamas. But when they jumped into the pool, something magical happened. The water didn't feel wet anymore—it felt like flying through starlight!
"Look up!" Orion gasped.
The stars were dancing. And right above them, the constellation Taurus the Bull twinkled extra bright. Suddenly, a sparkly silver bull jumped RIGHT OUT of the sky and SPLASHED into the pool!
Lily and Orion stared as the star-bull doggy-paddled around them. His fur was made of twinkling stars, and his nose was shaped like the crescent moon.
"I'm Taurus," the bull said. "And you two must be the ones I've heard about from the moon rabbits. They said you're the best star-spies in the neighborhood."
"Star-spies?" Lily asked, adjusting her hat. "What's that?"
"Someone who watches over the sky and keeps it beautiful," Taurus explained. "The stars need friends to dream about them so they keep shining bright."
Lily and Orion spent the rest of the night swimming with Taurus, learning star names and making up constellations of their own. They saw a rabbit jumping over a moon, a cat playing with a ball of yarn, and even a hat-shaped constellation just like Lily's!
When the sun began to rise, Taurus swam back up into the sky.
"Thank you for being my friends," he called down. "Remember: every time you look up and wonder, you make the stars shine a little brighter."
Lily and Orion climbed out of the pool, tired but happy.
"Can we be star-spies again tomorrow night?" Orion asked.
"Every night," Lily promised, tipping her red polka-dot hat at the sky.
And from that night on, whenever they went swimming under the stars, Taurus would splash down to visit, and the three friends would have magical adventures among the constellations—together.
