The Midnight Pool Secret
Leo loved secrets. His grandpa called him a little spy because Leo always noticed things others missed — the way fireflies blinked in Morse code, how the old oak tree waved its branches when no wind blew.
But the biggest secret waited at the community pool, where Leo swam every summer afternoon. The lifeguard said nobody was allowed there after sunset. Yet three nights in a row, Leo had seen strange blue glow flickering through the fence from his bedroom window.
On the fourth night, Leo tiptoed outside. The moon hung like a silver coin. He slipped through the gate and gasped.
A magnificent creature stood by the pool's edge — a great white bull with shimmering fur that sparkled like diamonds. But this wasn't any ordinary bull. His horns glowed with soft blue light, and when he stepped into the water, ripples turned into tiny stars.
The bull looked at Leo with sad, gentle eyes.
"I am Orion," the creature spoke, and his voice sounded like wind chimes. "I fell from the constellation Taurus. I need moonlight to climb back home, but the city lights are too bright."
Leo's heart swelled with wonder. "The pool reflects moonlight perfectly!"
Together, they had an idea. Leo used his spy skills — he'd observed how the pool's underwater lights created patterns. He switched them off. The water became a perfect mirror of moonlight.
Orion stepped into the pool, and his diamond fur absorbed the silver glow. He grew brighter and brighter, lifting gently into the sky.
"Thank you, little friend," Orion called as he ascended toward the stars. "Look up tonight. I'll wave my horns."
That night, Leo watched a new star twinkle extra bright in the sky. Some secrets, he learned, are meant to be shared. The best discoveries aren't the ones we keep hidden — they're the ones that help our friends find their way home.
