The Midnight Pool's Secret
Lily couldn't sleep. Thunder rumbled outside her window, and flashes of lightning painted her room in silver. She tiptoed downstairs and slipped into the backyard, following the golden glow pooling around the old palm tree.
But this was no ordinary pool. It shimmered like liquid stars, swirling with magic. Lily reached out to touch it.
"Careful, little one," a deep voice rumbled. A giant bear stepped out from behind the palm tree, his fur glistening like midnight rain. "This pool shows you what you need most."
Before Lily could answer, a bull with moonlit horns emerged from the shadows. At first, Lily trembled. Everyone knew bears and bulls could never be friends.
"Don't be afraid," said the bear gently. "Barnaby and I have been meeting here for fifty years."
"Every midnight," added Barnaby the bull. "The magical pool brought us together."
Lily watched in wonder as they splashed into the pool together. The water danced with lightning-bright sparkles, and suddenly, Lily saw something magical: images of them playing, sharing food, and protecting each other from storms.
"Different doesn't mean dangerous," the bear said, reading her thoughts. "The pool teaches us that true friendship comes from the heart, not from what others expect."
Lightning flashed again, and the pool began to fade. But its lesson stayed bright in Lily's heart. As she crept back to bed, she knew something wonderful: tomorrow at school, she would finally sit with the new girl who always ate lunch alone. Different could be magical too.
The palm tree waved its leaves in the wind, as if whispering, "And that, my dear, is the best kind of magic."
